34th Annual Meeting of the Society for the Study of Ingestive Behavior
The SSIB 2027 program is being built now — symposia proposals and speaker suggestions are open.
The SSIB Program Committee invites SSIB members to submit symposia proposals and/or speaker suggestions for the SSIB 2027 Meeting.
Symposia make a major contribution to the overall quality of our Annual Meeting. They inform our membership of recent advances in the fields that contribute to our collective science, and they are an important mechanism for recruiting new members.
Suggestions should have a clear theme or goal, with talks that complement each other. Of particular interest are sessions bridging basic science and clinical applications, or animal models and human subjects research. Topics covered at the most recent SSIB meeting are given lower priority — last year’s symposia and symposia from 2021–2024 are available for reference.
We encourage, but do not require, at least two SSIB member speakers. You can view the membership list by logging into your SSIB account and selecting Member Directory under Member Resources.
The Program Committee is committed to a balanced scientific program representative of the broad SSIB community — topic, track, gender and geography — while staying within budget, as there are a limited number of non-member speaker invitations available.
Accepting proposals as-is is rare given these considerations, and because we often receive several outstanding suggestions on similar themes. In practice a topic might be chosen but some speakers replaced, or two suggestions combined. You will therefore not be notified whether your symposium was selected, though you may still see your ideas reflected in the program. We are not able to provide feedback on submissions.
The Program Committee often modifies or combines suggestions to create a balanced meeting, so there is no need to obtain commitments from potential speakers at this stage. SSIB membership is encouraged but not required to submit — however, the submitter must become a member if they are chosen to speak or if their proposal is selected.
Speaker suggestions supplement the symposia proposals. Self-nominations are accepted, but individuals who have spoken at SSIB within the last three years are not eligible. A detailed talk abstract is not necessary.
Topics not heavily addressed at last year’s meeting are given priority. As with symposia, membership is encouraged but not required to submit, though the submitter must become a member if selected.
Established through a gift from Dr. Harry R. Kissileff in honor of Drs. Jacques Le Magnen (France), Anton Steffens (The Netherlands), Jacob Steiner (Israel) and Steven Cooper (The United Kingdom), the fund provides financial support for scholars currently conducting research in those countries to participate in the meeting, for example as symposia speakers. It is awarded at the discretion of the Program Committee.
