A postdoctoral research position is available in my laboratory at the Florida State University that focuses on taste function and feeding behavior. NIH-funded projects ongoing in my laboratory include: 1) characterizing taste function in T1R KO mice and other genetically engineered mouse models and 2) assessing the effects of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery on food selection and palatability, and testingthe contribution of gut peptides to these processes (this is part of an international consortium with colleagues in Ireland and Switzerland). NIH funding for a third project fcoused on the neural pathways underlying cephalic phase endocrine responses looks promising. The position should provide a unique opportunity to gain experience in the most recent advances in behavioral and psychophysical methodologies used to assess gustatory function and ingestive behavior in rodent models. Candidates should have well developed skills in basic statistical analyses and scientific writing, as well as have experience in one or more of the following with rodent models: surgery, histology, or behavioral training/testing. Florida State University has a strong interdisciplinary neuroscience program and a well established core of researchers studying ingestive behavior and chemical senses.
